New England Equal Best Victory Run Since Brady Era with Win Over New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five TDs in the present year
New England equaled their best victory streak from the Tom Brady era as they beat division opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson was the standout with three TDs as the New England squad claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 25 of 34 passes
The win extends the Patriots lead at the top of the division as they moved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had gone in front at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Fields scoring a five-yard TD to cap the Jets' initial series
But the New England answered in the second quarter as Henderson rushed for two seven-yard TDs before the running back grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third period to extend the lead to 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He desires to be outstanding."
Fields connected with Metchie late in the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Borregales converted a two kicks in the final period as the home side wrapped up the victory
